Medical Reserve Corps

The mission of the Trumbull County Medical Reserve Corps is to establish, organize, and implement a local Medical Reserve Corps unit that is appropriately trained to react to incidents occurring in the Trumbull County.  The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities.

MRC Core Values

Community: Honor the community-based nature of the MRC and recognize its spirt of volunteerism.
Action: Seek opportunities to develop meaningful initiatives that support community medical and public health volunteerism and service.
Resourcefulness:  Maximize our potential to learn, and leverage relationships and assets to the fullest extent.
Teamwork: Embrace collaboration and work collectively to achieve the mission.
Diversity:  Accept and respect the cultural identity of all.

Who can register?

Any citizen who is 18 years of age or older may join the MRC.  A wide range of medical professionals such as physicians, pharmacists, nurses, dentists, mental health professionals, EMTs, and others are needed to provide direct medical services. A large number of non-medical volunteers are also needed to provide support services from clerical to computer support to triage, transportation, and communications.

What is required to become a volunteer?

MRC Volunteers must complete a registration form and a required “Introduction to MRC” training that includes a certificate for the National Incident Management System training IC 700 and IC 100 courses which can be completed on your own time.

What is the time commitment of being a volunteer?

You can participate in as little or as many trainings and exercises as you would like.  The only requirement is to attend one training session every three years.  Professional development classes can count for this requirement if a certificate of completion is forwarded to the MRC Coordinator.

Liability Coverage:

Liability Protection in Ohio Revised Code 5502.281and 3701.04 provides liability protection to registered Ohio Medical Reserve Corps volunteers during local, state or federally declared emergencies, disasters, drills, exercises and trainings, and exempts a registered volunteer's personal information in the Ohio MRC Database from public disclosure.  This protection does not include the provision of any court fees, nor does it cover workman's compensation.
